Knowing how to give without receiving anything
The ESSALEM Foundation is a Tunisian NGO that has been working in Tunisia since 1982; its basic aim is to help young people with their integration into the working market. This help means support either in their technical or school formation or in buying utensils and primary materials that are necessary to beginn micro-projects.
The funds come from an initial investment with equal parts from the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sion and the Banque Internationale Arabe de Tunisie [International Arab Bank of Tunisia], which bought our school in the rue de Hollande. Together with us, this bank made a commitment to share with those who have least.
The Foundation has financed a number of “crafts” projects (mostly weaving) (which among others, made it possible to set up the pilot project “Women’s Hands”); these activities take place mainly in the center and the south of the country, which are the regions at the greatest disadvantage.
